any copper collector coin was unheard of, & created quite

1793 Chain Cent, Sheldon-2, the "Beckwith Coin". This
coin turned up in London, England in 1891, where it
was purchased by Washington, D.C. coin dealer B. H.
Collins, who held it in his personal collection until
1919. He then sold it to the astute Dr. Beckwith for an
incredible $500. Through the 20th Century a long line
of illustrious connoisseurs, both collectors and
dealers, included this coin in their collections. Both
Henry Chapman and B. Max Mehl kept this coin for
their personal chain cent. Of course Naftzger owned
this coin, but it was traded to Herman Halpern before
Jay Parrino acquired the fabulous Naftzger collection.
This chain cent is my favorite 1793 cent of all which I
have seen simply because of the near perfection of
the lustrous surfaces. It is not fully struck on some of
the very highest strands of hair over the ear, but
when I tilt the coin in the light I see the perfectly
preserved copper surfaces (more fragile than mint
state gold) with shimmering cartwheel luster. This is
the coin pictured at the Large Cents for Coin World

CLASSIC WAYTE RAYMOND COIN CARDBOARD PAGES
We lucked onto an old coin shop's inventory of Wayte Raymond pages, made for 2 and 3 ring binders. These were the state
of the art in coin preservation and display. The plastic slides allowed for seeing the obverse and reverse of each coin.
Care needs to taken not to slide the plastic across the surfaces of the coin to avoid light scratching called "slide marks".
The slide marks were ultimately the biggest downside of these pages. The slight sulfur content of the cardboard created
some of the most beautiful toning known to exist on coins of all grades. I believe most of these were made from the
1930s to 1964.
