About Uncirculated, Average Strike net EF
"Wrestlers" of Aspendos, a Greek city in Pamphylia, struck c. 370-333 B.C. silver Stater, about 10.7
grams of high grade silver. Obv.: Two naked athletes wrestling according to the original Greek rules
(now known as Graeco-Roman wrestling). This sport is still popular in villages in this part of the world
and has now become an American celebration with the astounding upset of the legendary Russian
Alexander Karelin by the new American hero, Wyoming farmer Rulon Gardner. In their previous match
this incredibly strong Russian picked up and slammed down the 286 pound Gardner on his head three
times while defeating him.Other opponents of the Russian had been severely injured or paralyzed. But
this time our American won by a very tiny margin of only one very subtle point, which the judges
confirmed by videotape, and the Gold was won in an upset which might be the biggest of the entire
Olympics. Rev.:Slinger preparing to fire his weapon, triskeles to right. This sling was used in very early
prehistoric times, before the bow and arrow. The sling was used to propel a large arrow, or small spear
with great speed.
