Additional Notes

The huge recoinage of old tenor silver and gold put great strains on the English mint during this period, and varieties and errors are frequent. It seems the die cutter thought he was working on a two guinea die, which is similar size. The error must have been caught early and the die retired. This is apparently the third known and is a pleasing F/VG+ with soft date from uneven reverse die placement. Raw, with Jonathan K Kern certificate of authenticity.
